16.6.09 - The first long day

Today we started at 7:30 AM and most of the kids are at the school still doing another session. Most of us leaders are at the church waiting to see the results of how the kids do on their own. We have no doubt that they'll do great which is why we left them almost alone tonight (Daryl is there). They're supposed to be done around 9:30ish tonight. We split up into two schools today and had approximately 125 kids (yes 125) accept Christ today. Our kids are fired up and we're rearing to go tomorrow. Tomorrow and Thursday we are meeting at the church at 7:00 and have an hour and a half drive to get to where we'll split up again and do basically the same program we did today for the next two days. We aren't supposed to be back to our host homes until 11:00 or so the next two nights. On the bus trips I plan to read your comments to the group on the way to the next town tomorrow so keep posting. Thank you to all who have. It's still a little cold here, but it's not too bad. We're planning on calling Isaacson's around 9 or 9:15 on Skype so if you're not planning to go there, go.

One more picture of the top of the mountain. That is Vandelehey (phonetically spelled). He lives in Rio and goes the Spellman's church. He is an incredible musician and has been hanging out with us all week.

We spent yesterday at a school for very poor children. Here is a picture of Mattt playing with one of the kids.

Here is another one of Abby and two of the kids.

Here is Jake giving his testimony at the church in Pomerode. They were gread people and fed us many pastel de carne's. (a fried pastry with meat in the middle. Similar to a Runza, but not quite as good.)

  6. ok... so what IS the round glowy thing that is certainly NOT a halo on Matthew's head?

Halo or no, its good to see you doing what you love Sam. I know your interaction with those kids will be something they will remember for the rest of their lives...."I remember ...back when i was 7 ... the time the guy in the bright pink shirt from America that spoke realllly funny wrestled and played ball with me....." These kids will talk about you and the team with their future husbands/wives and children. Don't forget that as you play and share Christ with these kids you are impacting their entire lives as well as the lives of those they will influence.... This is HUGE!

I so appreciate the blog! It is great to be able to share a portion of what is going on. Continuing to pray for rest and strength.

    Keep up the great work!

  8. Hi Jake! Wow...thanks for the great pictures. It was awesome to see you giving your testimony, son. Way to go and be bold! 125 kids accepted Christ????? That is totally AMAZING! This is why you all are there...keep lovin' on the kids, keep keepin' the faith, and keep strong. Phil 4:13. I can do all things through Him who gives me strength! Love you...and so glad to hear that everyone's health is strong. KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!

Jake...the yard needs trimmed. Remind me to have you teach me how to do that before you head off to college.

    Love you,

  9. To the team: It was so grat to talk with Ricky during our parent prayer time on Tuesday night. I could tell that he was feeling very proud of this team and the awesome work you are doing. Here are some of the many things we prayed for you all: perserverance; joy-filled service; safety; to be filled with God's power; boldness & courage in sharing your testimony & the gospel; endurance; life transformation; compassion for the poor; team unity and much, much more! Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

To Sean H.: You are in our thoughts & prayers every day. Lauren asked if I would make a Runza Casserole last week-end and I told her it just would not be the same without you to enjoy it with us! I hope that God is stretching you in ways that you never imagined you could go. Keep leaning on Him to guide you and fill you with just what you need every day. We love you!

  10. Jake,
Awesome pictures and experiences! You look like a "preacher" man holding that microphone & bible the way you do. Maybe you will have to rethink your major and get the divinity degree. Glad to hear the sugars are doing well. The mountain top shot is stunning and the NE sweatshirt sounds like it is needed in the cool weather. Keep up the great trip, way to touch so many lives, nothing better than a huge smile on a young kids face knowing they are going to heaven!!!
    Missing you.

  11. Jake,

Looking back at the picture of you giving your testimony with the female interpreter...is she really tall also or were you sitting down? It looks like you are standing right next to her and it looks as if she is only a couple of inches shorter than you????
